Description
We’ve long been advocates for Australian wool for Australian babies, and what better way to be introduced to our country than with a blanket featuring some of our finest flora and fauna? Made from our soft Australian Merino Wool yarns, this blanket is a generously sized bassinet or pram blanket suitable for wrapping newborns through to doubling as a superhero cape for pretend play years later. Built to last a lifetime and withstand family life, at 80cm x 100cm it’s a great size for travelling and can be simply machine washed and tumble dried as required.
Our fine knit construction ensures the animals are featured on the front of the blanket only. The back is a random dot pixel pattern similar to the static display of old televisions but in the same colour theme and super soft touch as the blanket front.
Featuring:
Bottlebrush (Callistemon) flower – there are over 40 species of bottle brush, a native shrub whose flower has a sweet nectar. Did you know Indigenous people of Australia used the bottle brush flowers as a natural energy drink?
Flowering Eucalyptus or Gum (Corymbia ficifolia) – did you know gum blossoms don’t have petals like most flowers? Their colourful stamens are what attract insects and birds while the petals are actually fused into the cap, which becomes the gum nut.
Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) – did you know that the primary function of a platypus’s tail is used to store up to nearly half of its body fat in case of a food shortage?
Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) – the much loved merry merry king of the bush is the laughing kookaburra, but did you know he sings his chorus to mark his territory?
Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) – koalas can sleep up to 20 hours a day, which is what you hope your newborn baby will do when wrapped in this blanket. Make sure not to say koala bear – he’s a marsupial, not a bear.
Kangaroo (Macropodidae) – our kangaroo has a baby joey in her pouch. Did you know the joey will stay in her pouch for between eight to eleven months and continue to suckle from mum until they are old as eighteen months?
The blanket colour ochre (pronounced OH-ker), has our mustard, rust, navy and white pure wool yarns knitted together. These earthy colours create a bright and Instagram worthy blanket suitable for both boys and girls and reminiscent of Australia’s long summer desert days.
Weighing approx. 260 grams, the Australian Animals blanket is a thoughtful gift to send overseas and is clearly marked as being Australian Made on the label.
Our ultra soft blankets are so incredibly fluffy and luscious you’ll definitely feel left out but don’t worry can get a pure merino throw for yourself too. See them here
